If you're looking for a reprieve from the cold temps and from the hurried pace of December, make some time for a relaxing soak in the tub. We will often get questions about our bath bombs, so we thought this would be a good time to chat about all things bath related.

Why a Bath Bomb?

If you haven't used a bath bomb before, you might be wondering why they've become so popular. With lots of fizz and aroma, they leave your skin feeling silky-smooth. Here's why so many people love them. A bath bomb...
  • creates a spa-like atmosphere of luxury as you unwind
  • calms and soothes your body, mind, and spirit
  • uplifts your mood with aromatherapy benefits
  • moisturizes skin, making it more soft and silky
  • cleanses and deodorizes
  • can repair skin and strengthen blood vessels

How Does It Work?

The two main ingredients of a bath bomb are citric acid and baking soda. These two components produce a chemical reaction that creates fizzy bubbles. The fizz is actually the release of carbon dioxide gas which causes the effervescence that releases the aroma and moisturizing effects of the bath bomb. Here's a break down of the ingredients.
  • citric acid -- this is a weak organic acid that contains antioxidants (think anti-aging benefits). It's known to repair skin, loosen damaged skin, and strengthen blood vessels.
  • baking soda -- this is a natural mineral known to cleanse, deodorize, and smooth.
  • organic castor oil -- this has incredible moisturizing power, and the bath bomb is the perfect application for this nourishing oil
  • fragrance/essential oil -- whether it's an essential oil or fragrance oil, the scent uplifts the spirit and calms the mind
  • white Kaolin clay -- this gentle clay cleanses and soothes, even for the most sensitive skin
  • witch hazel -- this mild astringent eases inflammation and helps to bind the bath bomb together
  • polysorbate 80 -- this is an emulsifier that helps to evenly distribute the oils in the bath bomb with the water in the tub. This helps to prevent an oily ring around your tub while distributing the benefits of the moisturizing oil throughout the bath water.

What Makes Martha's Bath Bombs Unique?

If you haven't seen one of our bath bombs in real life, you may not realize how huge they are! Measuring three inches in diameter, these oversized bath bombs provide long-lasting effervescence and plenty of moisturizing power and scent.
The extra-large size allows us to load these up with so much scented goodness! For example, each of our Lavender Bath Bombs contain about 1 teaspoon or 5 mL of lavender essential oil. For perspective, a 5 mL amber glass bottle is a common size for selling small bottles of essential oil.

Are Your Bath Bombs More Natural?

Yes. Here's what's NOT in our bath bombs!
  • NO colorants -- artificial or natural. If you are looking for a bath bomb that will turn your tub bright purple, our bath bombs probably aren't for you. We like to keep things as natural as possible.
  • NO sodium lauryl sulfate. This is a common additive to bath bombs and soaps to enhance bubbles and lather. It can also be an irritant and we don't use it in any of our products, including our bath bombs.
  • NO additives like glitter or crushed flower petals. Often times these types of additives cause problems with tub drainage or cleaning, and can cause discomfort while bathing.
  • NO phthalates, parabens, or talc. All of our fragrances are phthalate- and paraben-free. We do not add talc to any of our products.

Why Give a Bath Bomb?

Taking time to unwind and relax is just the thing so many of us need right now.  So for the month of December, we're offering a 20% off coupon code for all bath bombs ordered from website.
